Hyderabad
Watching a big, fat wedding is a joy on television or while watching a movie. In fact, just about everyone loves beautifully done-up venues and loads of noise in such instances. But in real life, the same scenario might be a cause of major nuisance. The citizens in various parts of Hyderabad are tired of heavy-duty noise pollution caused by baraats that start in the evening and go on into the wee hours.
It is known that due to the pandemic, there were no major celebrations, and now post-pandemic, people are making it a point to create loads of noise, even for a tiny function. The decibel levels have gone up as many hire DJs, and then there are local teen-maar bands that add to the noise levels.
Instead of being pleasant music accompanying the groom to the venue, all the loudness causes cacophony and leads to anxiety levels among people living in the locality. Many citizens have approached the police to come up with rules to curb such noise pollution and arrest such noise makers.
Also, during such times, crackers are burst, and some people perform daredevil stunts, all of which create a sense of fear among senior citizens, pets, infants, students, and patients. Many rue that loud noises are played for just about every occasion.
Also, the GHMC has approved the building of marriage halls within colonies, which is another huge nuisance. While the Supreme Court has categorized residential areas as silent zones with low decibel levels, it is not the case in Hyderabad.
Many citizens complain that the police are doing little to stop this overdose of noise pollution.
