Hyderabad and its suburbs continued to receive heavy rains for the 5th consecutive day, affecting normal life and almost filling Hussain Sagar lake on Tuesday. Continued rains have led to overflowing drains and inundation of roads, throwing vehicular traffic out of gear in some areas.Colleges and schools remain closed for the second day as the TS government declared a 3-day holiday for all educational institutions because of the rains.Following heavy rains across the state, the Hussain Sagar was receiving abundant inflows, and the water level on Tuesday crossed the lake's full tank level (FTL). The water level in the Hussain Sagar was recorded at 513.44 m against the FTL of 513.41 m. The maximum water level of the lake is 514.75 m.The Lakes wing of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is closely monitoring the water levels in the Hussain Sagar and updating the situation of the Revenue and Irrigation departments. At the other lakes in the city, safety measures are also being taken by the GHMC.The release of water from Himayat Sagar and Osman Saga reservoirs continued. Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board have kept open two doors reach of the reservoirs up to one foot to let out water into the Musi River.Alerts have been issued to the people living in the river bed and the residential areas along the river's course.

On Tuesday, Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing busted a drug racket and arrested five drug peddlers in Madhuranagar. The authorities have recovered 36 g of Methamphetamine worth Rs 2 lakhs from their possession. The Narcotics Enforcement Wing has handed over the accused to SR Nagar police for further investigation.SR Nagar police and the Narcotics Enforcement Wing conducted a raid, acting on a tip-off, and nabbed the peddlers.According to police, prime members of the drug racket gang, Balaji from Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh and Naveen from Chennai, are absconding.The police also said that Bala Manikanta (30) of Gachibowli, Patta Joseph (22), a resident of Shaikpet, Chintala Sairam (24), Samantha Rao (24) of Kondapur, and Akhil Kumar (26) have been taken into custody from Madhuranagar and are being investigated, and sixteen drug abusers were absconding.
